    Link UP & Link OUT

About this time seven years ago I met up with around 10 other young architects and designers in a bar on Christianshavn. I had invited them to discuss how we could create a more thriving and lively design scene in Copenhagen. Partly inspired by some of the Core77 events I had attended in New York and partly because we wasn’t too far away from the first INDEX:Award, and if the global design spotlight was on Copenhagen, I would like it to look more alive, design wise. Basically we just wanted some informal design events, where we could get together, catch up and discuss design stuff, maybe show off a bit…

In october 2004 we went online with the first version of the website www.linkup-cph.dk and send out a newsletter to about a 100 of our friends. Six years later vi hit 3500 members on our mailinglist, a thousand blogposts, 3000 events in the ‘What’s up’ section, 2500 sites had been submitted to the ‘Linked up’ section and the boards had received more than 6000 ‘post its’. Quite impressive numbers for a small country like Denmark, where the Danish design organization counts about 1000 members.

We also initiated 3 exhibition events called Link UP Showcase, invited or participated in a larger number of seminars, networking events etc. and our ‘Word up’ section counts more that 80 larger articles. Oh, and we also took part in starting up the talent award ‘Time to Design’.

The crew and organization behind has continuously changed and for a while now, it’s has been time for a bigger shift. The last nearly 2 years we have worked with different partners on how we could continue Link UPs activities in a better and more sustainable fashion and I am quite happy to announce that we are merging our efforts with Dansk Dynamit and Jesper and I will be active as editors and as part of the advisory board.

Let me get back to the new Dansk Dynamit site in another post, and finish this off with a sincere thanks to everybody who has been part of Link UP and fulfilling the foggy vision I had on that early march day seven years back. I can’t believe how much we accomplished, and even though it has been frustrating at times and offent way too much work, it has been one of the accomplishments I am most proud of participating in.

Check the post and thank you note over at Linkup.nu. I would like to give an extra special thanks to the most core crew members Jesper, Lene & Ida for many hours of work and fun - and our best assistant Eva (best of lucks on your masters!).

See you all over at Dansk Dynamit
