I have (like most of you all) noticed the UI update that the Google design team is currently rolling out over their products and platform, timed with the launch of Google+, I guess.
I think the updated look and feel is a great improvement - and of course I like the use of icons. I am hoping they’ll also change the browser bar icon.
I can’t believe that it’s 2011 and it’s the first time I’ven seen something like this. There’s an amazing amount of interactions with the public sector which could be designed to work better.
Alpha.gov.uk is an experimental prototype of a single UK Government website. It aims to be as simple as possible, and to place the needs of citizens first. Developed in under three months by a small team within the Government Digital Service, it is a direct response to Martha Lane Fox’s recent review of gov.uk, which demanded revolution, not evolution, in the way Government services are delivered online.
